Client challenge

Our client, COWI/AS, is an international consulting group, specialising in engineering, environmental science and economics, with headquarters in Lyngby, Denmark. As part of the development of a new offshore wind farm they required a comprehensive underwater noise study.

How we helped

Vysus Group was commissioned to create a site-specific model. This model included detailed representation of the multi-layered seabed, sound speed profile and bathymetry.

For the sound propagation, our team applied a Parabolic Equation model along several radial transects. The output from the model was used for deriving cumulative noise metrics vs. distance according to the Danish Guidelines, which account for moving animals in the seas.

Powerful results

Our study was an essential element to COWI’s Environmental Impact Assessment and was delivered in a qualified and timely way. Throughout the project we had a close dialogue between our acoustic experts and the client’s project staff, which helped to ensure more effective communications. In addition, our prediction model complied with the current Danish regulations for underwater noise predictions, and ensured that our client was confident in complying with current regulations.
