Location

UKCS

Client challenge

Our client has been contracted to deliver a multi-well decommissioning plug and abandonment project on behalf of a UKCS operator.

A key deliverable of this work scope is the development and implementation of an emissions management plan (ERAP). The emissions management plan is expected to be implemented and maintained for the duration of the work programme with the purpose of reducing emissions for the campaign.

The scope of this plan is intended to cover activities for the development of well abandonment solutions for the P&A campaign, from define phase through to execution.

How we helped

The Vysus team supported our client with the development of an atmospheric emissions management plan to manage greenhouse gas emissions associated with the deployment of the rig and P&A operations.

The plan was developed to comply with:

• Operator procedures and OGA Paris net-zero objectives
• NSTA Stewardship expectations regarding Emissions Reduction Action Plan (ERAP) and Supply Chain Action Plan (SCAP)
• ISO 14064 standard for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals

Key elements of the plan addressed:

•Context (wells decommissioning plug and abandonment project)
• Leadership and commitment to net-zero
• Baseline emissions footprint
• Current emissions reporting
• Emissions reduction targets
• Carbon reduction projects and initiatives
• Reporting and progress against agreed metrics
• Verification status

Powerful results

Deliverables from the workscope comprised a documented emissions management plan identifying all significant sources of emissions, compliance obligations and responsibilities for management of emissions associated with the multi-well decommissioning programme.

Project activities covered by the plan included:

• Well engineering
• Facilities / topsides removal (DES)
• Platform enabling acopes (cranes, HVAC, IT/IS systems)
• Rig solution (MDR)
• Well abandonment ops (engineering and design)
• Waste management and logisitics
• Multi-site operational support locations

The ERAP workscope was supported by an emissions reduction workshop and ENVID with the participation of technical experts from the operator, our client and the supply chain.
